As the year comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what this past year has meant for Cutting Edge Salon in Sherwood Park — the growth, the challenges, and the wins that shaped us.
This year brought one of the hardest business decisions I’ve had to make: transitioning our salon from Redken to Goldwell. With changing tariffs and rising costs in the beauty industry, I had to look at what was best for the long-term health of our Sherwood Park hair salon. It wasn’t an easy decision, but choosing Goldwell professional hair products was about sustainability, quality, and continuing to offer exceptional results for our guests. Redken hair colour was not affected by tariffs and our salon continues to use them, thankfully!
We also experienced growth within our team. This year, we welcomed an esthetician, expanding our esthetics, skincare and laser hair removal services in Sherwood Park, and we added an additional apprentice, reinforcing our commitment to education and mentorship. Education remains a core value at Cutting Edge, because staying current and inspired is essential in this industry.
Like any year, there were transitions. We said goodbye to a stylist who decided to move on, reminding us that change is a natural part of growth. While not always easy, these moments create space for realignment and renewed energy well needed in retrospect.
One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing our blended salon model truly thrive. Cutting Edge is home to both chair rental stylists, employed stylists, nail and lash technicians and a permanent makeup artist, working together as a full, cohesive team. That balance comes from shared values, professionalism, and trust.
On a personal note, one of the biggest milestones for me as a salon owner was being able to take a full month away from the salon, knowing everything would continue to run smoothly. Our Sherwood Park salon remained fully operational, clients were cared for, and the team stepped up with confidence and leadership. That experience was a powerful reminder of how strong this team truly is.
This year wasn’t about perfection — it was about resilience, thoughtful decision-making, and building a salon that lasts. I’m incredibly grateful for our team, our clients, and our community in Sherwood Park who continue to support our Cutting Edge Salon.
Thank you for being part of the journey. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
